Miles and More Silver Status: my honest take on frequent flyer perks (and why I want gold next)

Well, yes, I have to admit it. With a mix of shame and arrogance, I acknowledge I got upgraded to the Olympus of the frequent flyers.

Since 2022, I have diligently uploaded all my tickets numbers on my account on Miles & More. I was pretty lucky, because I end up quite often to fly Turkish, Swiss or ITA even for business trips, which sped up the process.

I didn’t really calculate what I would get when, just uploaded them automatically. Even more, at a certain point I just asked the agency to insert my number in all the reservations (I use the same agency, Beg Tours, for my personal flights as well, Uros is simply unbeatable in terms of services and customer care).

Some day around February 2026, I come back from the office, open the mailbox and collect a small package. “What the hell do they want from me?”

When I open it, I don’t get immediately what it is, because it’s three silver small cards that look the same. Then I check better. There is a congratulation letter announcing me I have officially obtained a silver frequent traveller status and two fancy luggage tags.

My miles are protected and they won’t expire or at least I won’t loose them for 1 year. I need to check better this point, which remains a bit unclear for me, because I never cared much about them.

But that’s not the only privilege.

I can also:

  • Check-in at the business counter (it saves time)
  • Travel with two check-in luggages (it saves money, because I often travel with my regular luggage + my diving equipment which is almost always charged)
  • Have access to the business lounges in many airports (free food & beverage, more comfort and dedicated wifi)

I had never entered a lounge before, with the exception of last October, when my flight was cancelled and the airline rescheduled me in business. However I was so shy that I just sit in a corner, working with my computer, probably drafting one of the posts you have already read, and not even daring drinking water.

Since I have the card, however, I decided it would be extremely ungrateful towards the Universe not to make a good use of it. So I became bolder and bolder, going to the business counter with my two heavy luggages, not feeling ashamed of my diving equipment bag that is falling into pieces, because this is compensated by the big Made in Italy Bric’s suitcase ( style tip: subscribe to the newsletter, the sales are really worth it). Today, with magnanimity, I even extended the privilege to my sister, so we checked-in together at the business counter and then we merrily headed to the security check bragging about how cool it was not to queue in the economy line together with the plebs we belonged to 5 seconds earlier and with whom we’ll blend 5 seconds later because I still cannot afford to fly business.

I did dump my sister for half an hour, I had to take my free cappuccino and get some detox aromatic water. Then I went back to the mortal world.

On a previous trip, transiting via Frankfurt, I experienced the shower. I entered the business lounge, went to the toilet area and asked for the shower. The lady unlocked it for me, and I materialized in a small luxurious shower, with all the comforts: clean towels, warm shower, body lotion and so on. I was not particularly tired, but I must say that it was a game changer to have a moment of wellness.

In Brussels, instead, I enjoyed a lot the meal. In fact, I had a nice, fresh salad, and then I sat in front of the window, waiting for my flight to Dakar to be called.

However, with a lot of disappointment I discovered that also the Olympus has different social layers. In Dakar and Sao Paulo my humble silver status got snubbed. Oh, yes, to go higher, you need the golden card, my lady. You don’t have it? Get back where you belong, trash.

So my next mission is to get the Golden status, or whatever I need to get so that they unroll the red carpet before me.

Will our hero manage?

Keep on following me to find out.
